Al Lux, formerly of Minden, has worked off and on for nine years on a homebuilt aircraft kit. He said he’s in the ninth year of what started as a three-year project. MINDEN — Aviation has been a big part of life for Al Lux.
Early on, he was attracted to commercially built aircraft that included some of general aviation’s most popular models. They were the two-seat Cessna 150, the four-passenger Cessna 172 and its bigger brother, the faster, more powerful Cessna 182. Like many pilots, Lux, formerly of Minden, shared ownership of those aircraft and flew for the challenge and excitement of it.
Then came retirement. Lux sold his business in Minden, Grayson Tool Co. He and his wife, LeeAnn, moved to Kearney and became snowbirds, spending part of the year in Arizona and the rest of the year in Nebraska.
Al had taken a multi-year break from aviation when he decided it was time to get back into flying, or, to be more precise, he was looking for a challenge that involved aviation. Lux acquired a variety of fabrication skills through his business and decided he was ready to build his own airplane. People are also reading.
