The latest round of productivity occurred at East Carolina’s Pirate Cross Country Invitational, held this past Friday. As the only non-NCAA Division I school in a 20-team field, the Lady Buffs placed fourth in Greenville, N.
C. With 19 of 21 men’s teams holding NCAA D-I membership, the Buffs ascended to a seventh-place showing. "Both squads are at the end of a pretty heavy training window," coach Chris Layne said after the meet.
“So taking that into consideration, I feel like we got a lot out of today. We saw a bunch of (personal bests) on the men's side. We are excited to get them freshened up so we can turn into the championship window ready to go.
" Kirsten Geary set the pace for Milligan’s women, running a 21:58.9 (6k) to finish 10th overall. Filling out the rest of the Lady Buffs’ top five were Ellen-Mary Kearney (15th, 22:09.
6), Alyssa Bearzi (35th, 22:41.4), Hannah Brown (54th, 23:05.4) and Ashlyn Haas (63rd, 23:11.
0). Karly Wilhjelm (113th, 23:55.2) accounted for her team’s sixth-best finish while Gracie Franklin (118th, 23:58.
9) obtained the seventh spot. Milligan’s top outing was had by Bryn Woodall, who placed seventh in the men’s 8k run. He crossed the line in 24:03.
3. Zimri Kuhn easily supplanted his previous personal-best time (24:53.6) with a 24:41.
