Story & photos by Randy S. Peregrino SINCE SAIC Motor Philippines helmed the MG brand in the country, numerous models have been brought in in less than a year. So, when they invited us to join their first-ever media ride and drive, the anticipation was there.

But instead of the usual extravagant kick-off, MG opted for a day trip with a more intimate and easy-going experience. Commissioned were the MG 3 Hatch Hybrid, the G50 Plus MPV, the ZS, and the One. For this trip, our group were assigned to the G50 Plus and the One.

We drove through Skyway Stage 3, NLEX, and SCTEX from the MG dealership on Quezon Avenue up to Rali’s restaurant in Subic Bay. Up for the task first was MG’s new entry in the highly competitive MPV market. The top-spec G50 Plus LUX DCT utters luxury in an MPV package boasting three rows and features typically found in higher-end models.

Design-wise, it exudes an elegant front grille blended with the LED/Halogen headlamp combination, exclusive roof rails, and rolls on the 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the LUX version features a seven-seater layout highlighting captain seats in the second row and an entire leather-style interior. In terms of entertainment, there is a 12.

3-inch touchscreen infotainment display supporting Apple Carplay and Android Auto. There are clustered controls in each place for easy access, and cup holders are all over. As for cabin space, this is what the G50 Plus impressed us the most.

For a compact MPV, the vehicle boasts a seven-seat.
