Pune: Mayur Waghmare , the alleged key conspirator in the Kondhwa brick kiln owner firing case, frequently changed his location and ensured that he did not call or visit his family or relatives for almost a fortnight after the incident on September 16 to avoid getting arrested. The estranged son-in-law of Raju Gaikwad (49), the brother of the victim, Dilip Gaikwad , used messages on a photo and video sharing application to communicate with one of his friends. Finally, it proved to be his undoing.
The Pune crime branch personnel, while monitoring Waghmare's activities on social media, spotted his messages on the app. Senior crime branch inspector Shailesh Sanke said, "We got in touch with Waghmare's friend and got him to ask Waghmare to meet him at a designated spot. Waghmare sensed something amiss behind the call for a meeting.
He got his friend to visit multiple locations in Hadapsar, Lonikand and Handewadi on September 30 before finally meeting the latter at Manjri Budruk, where our team nabbed him. Waghmare's custody was later handed over to the Kondhwa police." The police produced Waghmare before a magisterial court in Wanowrie, which ordered his custodial remand till Oct 5.
On Sept 16, three men had fired three bullets at Dilip in front of his office near Shatrunjay temple. One of the bullets hit him in the stomach and two missed the target. The victim's brother, Raju, lodged a complaint stating that a marital discord between his daughter and his son-in-law (Waghmare) le.
