Tuesday, October 1, 2024 Mercure Hotels celebrates a monumental achievement with the opening of its 1,000th property, marking a new chapter in its global journey of local discovery since 1973. Mercure Hotels has reached an extraordinary milestone with the opening of its 1,000th hotel, a testament to the brand’s rich history that began in 1973. From the outset, Mercure’s mission has been to showcase the distinct qualities of each destination, blending the consistency of a global brand with the unique local flavors of its surroundings.
This new achievement highlights Mercure’s ongoing role as a global leader in promoting local experiences for travelers. The milestone was reached after the successful openings of Mercure London Earls Court (UK), Mercure Chandigarh Tribune Chowk (India), Mercure Fukuoka Munakata Resort & Spa (Japan), Mercure Marival Emotions Resort (Mexico), and Mercure Nantong Renmin Road (China). In 2024, Mercure made significant expansions in China and Japan.
Nearly 30 hotels opened across Greater China, with nine launching in August alone, increasing the brand’s presence to over 180 properties in the region. In Japan, Accor doubled Mercure’s footprint by opening 11 hotels in April. Mercure’s journey began in the small town of Saint-Witz, France, and has grown exponentially since Accor’s acquisition in 1975.
The brand rapidly spread across Europe and beyond, opening its first international property in Lisbon in 1983, and later expanding into regio.
