The iconic S-Class will be available in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) versions by 2030. The decision marks the end of the EQS moniker, which was introduced in 2021 for Mercedes’ flagship EV sedan. Unifying Luxury with Innovation The unification of the S-Class and EQS models reflects Mercedes-Benz’s intent to reduce the disparity between its ICE and EV versions, creating a cohesive brand identity.
According to Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius, both the ICE and electric variants of the next-gen S-Class will feature similar exterior and interior designs. However, while the designs will be aligned, the underlying platforms are expected to differ. The electric S-Class and the next-gen EQE are likely to be built on Mercedes’ forthcoming MB.
