Netflix's upcoming drama, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story , is set to explore the chilling crime committed by the Menendez brothers - the murder of their wealthy parents. Entertainment tycoon Jose Menendez and his wife Mary Louise Andersen were brutally murdered in their Beverly Hills mansion on August 20, 1989. In a frantic call to 911, a distraught Lyle Menendez cried out "someone shot my parents" leading police to the scene of a gruesome double homicide.

Initially, the brothers weren't considered suspects, but their odd behavior and lavish spending following their parents' death raised suspicions, leading many to believe that the Menendez brothers could be responsible. Their arrest in 1990 led to a high-profile murder trial in 1993 and a subsequent retrial in 1995. In the Netflix adaptation, Oscar winner Javier Bardem will portray Jose; Chloe Sevigny from American Horror Story will play Kitty; newcomers Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch have been cast as Erik Menendez and Lyle Menendez, respectively, while Hollywood comedian Nathan Lane will take on the role of investigative journalist Dominick Dunne.
