Bandys wide receiver Evan Turner is 100% dedicated to football when he’s on the field or in the weight room. When he is in class, though, it’s all business — nothing is on his mind but his school work. “I’m not thinking about football during school,” Turner said.

“Whatever I’m doing at that moment, I will be the best I can be at whatever I’m doing.” Evan Turner (left) and Owen Turner visited Davidson College last summer for a football camp. He said he thinks that’s how he’s been able to excel at both.

And he has excelled. On the field, Turner’s 40-yard dash clocks in at 4.6 seconds.

It’s exactly the same number as his weighted GPA in the classroom. Turner has challenged himself in the classroom by taking honors classes and college-level Advanced Placement (AP) courses. He took eight AP classes last year as a junior and has five more on tap this year.

Evan’s younger brother Owen is right on his heels. His GPA is 4.5 and his 40-yard dash time is between 4.

6 and 4.7 seconds. He has rushed nearly 1,500 yards in seven games for the undefeated Trojans JV team this season.

“We give him the ball a lot,” head coach Jason Barnes said. “He does get most of the touches on JV. We credit a lot of our success to what he does.

...

I feel like I’m watching a video game watching him do some of the stuff he does out there.” Hickory @ Fred T. Foard Hickory will have too much firepower for Foard to deal with.

Hickory should be able to get a big lead early. .
