McDonald’s are celebrating their 50th birthday this year in the UK, and people are feeling nostalgic after seeing what the chain looked like in the 1980s. In the past five decades, the chain has gone through dramatic changes since it first opened in Woolwich, South London, back in October 1974. In a clip released by the official McDonald’s UK account on TikTok, a worker made a virtual old-school ‘Maccies,’ tour, so that people could see what it was like to order food from the iconic brand back in the 1980’s.

In the tour, we see some of the staples of the chain that existed when it was still at the beginning of its popularity. They showed the super retro furniture, as well as the old school menu, that surprisingly contained a lot of the same items as you’d find today, like the Fillet O’ Fish. They also showed an old-fashioned cash register, far bulkier than the digital kind you’d find today.

The chairs were also far more whimsical than the ones you get nowadays, shaped like a giant burger. There was even a section of the store designated the “hottest hangout space in town” – the children’s area where you could reserve a birthday party space. In the final part of the clip, we catch a glimpse of the employee of the month wall, where workers were rewarded for their good behavior with a plaque in their honor.

“Bring back Big Mac 90s size, and those polystyrene boxes and old milkshakes!” said one comment. Related: “Change EVERYTHING back to when it was.
