HONIARA City Mayor and Counselor for Ngossi Ward, Councilor Eddie Siapu has called on Malaitans living in Honiara to be law-abiding citizens. Mayor Siapu made the call in his speech at the opening of Malaita Province’s 41 Second Appointed Day anniversary celebration in Honiara on Thursday. The three-day celebration held at the FOPA Village in East Honiara concluded on Saturday.

The celebration is themed “Empowering Our Diversity through Spirit of Unity for a Brighter and Inclusive Future.” The theme, according to the celebration organizers, reflects on Malaitans commitment to work together with the national government and donor partners to ensure a future of prosperity and inclusivity for Malaita. “As a Lord Mayor of the Honiara City Council, I urge my good people of Malaita living in Honiara to refrain from unlawful activities.

“Honiara City is governed by ordinances and for residents and visitors, it is our collective responsibility to respect and adhere to these laws. “Your actions do not only reflect yourself but our beautiful Island of Malaita. So, let us all strive to be good law-abiding citizens and set a good example to others.

“I call on everyone from Malaita to lead our country and look after ourselves and people from our other provinces,” the mayor elaborated. Mayor Siapu also congratulated and wished the Premier of Malaita Province Elijah Asilaua and his government and the people of Malaita Province well on their 41 Province’s Second Appointed Da.
