Max Cooper will release new album ‘On Being’ next year. The composer has spent two years opening out his creative methods, analysing what it means to be truly human in the 21st century. Inverting his usual processes, Max Cooper collecting hundreds of anonymous quotes, each one posing an open-ended question – “ What would you like to express which you cannot in everyday life? ” and “ What is it like to exist inside your head? ” The composer immersed himself in these questions, allowing his own methods to evolve in conjunction.
He says: “I hadn’t realised the impact that other people’s words on being would have on me...
” Constructed over two years, ‘On Being’ will be released on February 28th. Containing 13 tracks – with a bonus track on the vinyl edition – the process evolved into a remarkable period of conversation. “I was interested in the way I interact with people for my writing process, which usually involves a one-way communication of feelings and ideas that I later find out whether they resonate with others or not,” says Max Cooper.
“With this I could start instead with people’s thoughts and feelings, what resonates for them, and make my own interpretations of those musically and visually, and then send those back out to everyone. It’s more of a collaborative approach to making an album, and more intense.” A new preview piece is online now – ‘True Under Certain Conditions’ is blessed with incredible patience, with Max inje.
