Marvel actress Connie Chiume has passed away at the age of 72. The Black Panther star's death has been confirmed by her family after she passed away on Tuesday (August 6) at a Johannesburg hospital. The multi-award-winning South African actress was admitted for a "medical procedure" before her death, according to Newzroom.

Her family have asked for privacy at this time and have vowed more details to follow. Connie starred in Black Panther as Mining Tribe Elder and its sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, playing Zawavari. She also featured in Beyonce's 2020 musical film Black is King.

The actress has starred in numerous South African TV shows like Rhythm City, Zone 14 and Gomora. Chiume's family released a statement on Instagram and said: “The Chiume Family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume. Connie Chiume, 72, passed on at Garden City Hospital today on 6 August 2024.
