Margaret Ann Flaten (née Mielke), lovingly known as ‘Marge,’ passed away peacefully in her home on August 16th, 2024, surrounded by family. She was 94 years old. Marge was born on September 19th, 1929, in Redwood Falls, MN, to Albert and Ester Mielke.

She grew up on the family farm alongside her two brothers, Karl and Don. After graduating from Wabasso High School in 1947, Marge attended Mankato College, where she earned her teaching certificate. She then began her career as a 3rd and 4th-grade teacher in Wabasso.

It was at the Wabasso schoolhouse where she would meet her future husband, Elroy (Roy) Flaten. Marge and Roy married on October 20th, 1951, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. Over the years, they were blessed with four children, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Marge had a deep passion for quilting, traveling, puzzles, reading, and, most of all, gardening, where she earned the title of Master Gardener. She was a beautiful woman, both inside and out, known for her kindness, sharp mind, and genuine care for others. Marge was a great listener, keenly observant, and loved being surrounded by humor and positive people.

Her devotion to her family extended to all their animals as well. Marge’s favorite place was the home she and Roy built together on Lake Elizabeth, where she found joy in the solitude and beauty of nature.
