Vadodara: A resident of Manjalpur was cheated of Rs 5.5 lakh by a man who promised to get his wife a visa to the US as well as a job there. In March this year, complainant Jignesh Patel saw a newspaper advertisement mentioning that a family in the US was looking for a cook and a house helper.

Patel, 46, evinced interest as his wife was looking for a job in the US. He called the number mentioned in the advertisement. Hemal, who answered the call, invited the couple to meet him at his office near Genda Circle.

Hemal promised to send Patel’s wife to the US within 45 days and asked for Rs seven lakh. Hemal took the money in installments and told Patel that he had started the process for her visa. However, when the visa got delayed, Patel inquired and found that Hemal had not started the process at all.
