Friday, September 20, 2024 Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha recently announced a remarkable surge in the state’s tourism sector, with 545,000 tourists visiting in 2023-24. This includes 470,000 domestic visitors and 75,000 international tourists , showcasing the growing appeal of Tripura as a travel destination. To bolster tourism infrastructure, the state has secured a loan of INR 180 crore from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Key projects funded by this initiative include renovations of the Pushpabanta Palace and the Tripureswari Temple , along with new adventure tourism offerings aimed at attracting younger visitors. During a program in Dhalai, Saha highlighted that the facelift of the Tripureswari Temple in Gomati district, a prominent Shakti Peeth , is nearing completion. Additionally, the tourism department is launching adventure activities in areas like Dumbur (Dhalai district), Chhabimura (Gomati district), and Jampui Hills (North district).

The Pushpabanta Palace , also known as Kunjaban Palace , was constructed in 1917 by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya and served as the Raj Bhavan until 2018. Its renovation is expected to be completed soon, enhancing its appeal to visitors. Saha also announced the introduction of a light and sound show at the Ujjayanta Palace , which showcases the rich history of the Manikya dynasty .

Located in the city center, Ujjayanta Palace was originally built as the royal palace by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya in 1901 and now serves.
