British holidaymakers flying abroad this summer are being warned about packing two common hand luggage items in their carry-on. By law, all hand luggage has to be checked by airport security before travellers are permitted to enter the departures lounge and there are rules that passengers must follow. These rules including removing prohibited items from carry-on bags and keeping all liquids and gels below 100ml, including food and drink, toiletries and spray bottles such as deodorant and hairspray.

Some items are prohibited from hand luggage but can be stored inside checked-in bags, such as certain work tools and sports equipment. However, even those who follow the rules religiously may find that their bags will be pulled for additional checks, causing delays getting through security. The Foreign Office warned that two safe-to-travel items can actually obstruct images on the X-ray machines and result in a manual search, as Birmingham Live reports.
