Vadodara: A man who was on the run for 22 years after attacking a team of mines and minerals department was nabbed by the parole furlough squad of the Panchmahal police on Tuesday. The accused, Rajendra Thakor, had settled in the Kheda district. According to sources, Thakor and two others were involved in illegal sand mining in Panchmahal.
In 2002, the trio had roughed up the team which had stopped their truck filled with sand. An offence regarding the incident was registered at the Kalol police station. Sources said that one of the accused had died, while another had turned himself in after being granted pre-arrest bail in the case.
Thakor was the third accused who was not traceable. Officials of the parole furlough squad recently got information regarding Thakor through their informers. “While trying to locate him, we zeroed down on his native village Areri in Mahemdabad taluka.
After speaking to several persons, we were told that while he had settled in the village, he had shifted his residence from the village to his farm located a couple of km away from Areri,” said an official. Police reached the house after an informer confirmed that he was present there. Thakor (57) was arrested and handed over to the Kalol police.
