A man was found shot to death at Fisherman’s Village Marina in Bimini yesterday, police said. Officers found the body of the 32-year-old victim around noon. Police were looking for a 28-year-old man who is a person of interest in the case.

The marina is a part of the luxury Resorts World Bimini property. Loved ones on social media identified the deceased as James Sands, a former Abaco resident who celebrated his birthday last week. Kingsley Smith, member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini, said the killing does not help the island’s reputation considering Bimini prides itself as being the “gateway to The Bahamas”.

“It is not a representation of who we are as an island community,” Smith said. “I wish to assure residents and visitors alike that this matter is being taken very seriously. It is being closely monitored.

” He said additional police resources will be sent to the island to help with the investigation. On March 28, a man was shot dead in Bimini shortly after midnight near a business on Kings Highway. After a spate of murders in July – primarily on New Providence – Free National Movement (FNM) Deputy Leader Shanendon Cartwright accused the government of being asleep at the wheel on the crime front.

“Despite this alarming crime crisis, there has not been one word, strategy shift, or policy adjustment by the government,” he said. “Confidence and trust in this government in dealing with crime has eroded. Who is in charge of the safety .
