Pune: The Faraskhana police are searching for a man, who pretended to be hearing and speech impaired and diverted a jeweller’s attention to steal a plastic box containing jewellery worth Rs13.6 lakh on Saturday in Raviwar Peth. The crime occurred between 1.

50pm and 2.45pm at a jewellery store. The 39-year-old jewellery store owner said in his complaint that the man entered the shop posing as a customer and distracted him by pretending to be hearing and speech impaired.

Senior inspector Prashant Bhasme of Faraskhana police said, “The man, who posed as the customer, made many gestures at the jewellery store owner and confused him.” The officer said, “He diverted the store owner’s attention and picked up a plastic box, which contained jewellery items like gold finger rings, earrings and other items, and left the store.” According to police, the incident came to light when the jewellery store owner was checking all the material at the time of store closing around 8.
