A man has been charged after nearly 90 expensive, luxury cars were defaced with spray paint. The cars, parked on public streets across Sydney’s inner west and eastern suburbs, had their emblems covered with red or blue paint this month. Police officers from Kings Cross, Surry Hills, Eastern Suburbs and Leichhardt received 87 reports of luxury cars that were sprayed with paint.

Officers from Central Metropolitan Region established Strike Force Opelika to investigate the incidents. Following a public appeal, police executed a search warrant at a unit on Pyrmont Bridge Road in Camperdown, about 3pm on Friday. A 49-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with 23 counts of destroy or damage property.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Saturday..
