1 2 Ahmedabad: A 45-year-old man from Rajkot’s Paddhari taluka, who was involved in a theft that took place in March in Naranpura area of the city, was on Monday arrested from his village. The accused has been identified as Jitu Parmar, a resident of Borasing Nalavas village of Paddhari. According to Naranpura police inspector Vijay Chavda, Parmar was arrested in Paddhari after being under surveillance for several days while moving from one location to another.

Police said that Parmar confessed to the March 15 theft in Naranpura, saying that he had gone to the complainant’s residence disguised as a eunuch . Parmar told the complainant that there was negative energy in his house and offered to perform a ‘cleansing’ ritual. He told the complainant to place a gold chain with an ‘Om’ pendant and Rs 35,000 in cash in a cloth.

“After the ritual, Parmar took the bundle out, telling the complainant to wait in the parking area while he disposed of the negative energy,” said police. Parmar then escaped with the valuables. Police recovered a gold chain weighing 5.

9 gm, a gold pendant weighing 0.61gm, and Rs 3,500 in cash from Parmar. He had previously been arrested for similar offences by Sabarmati police, Limbayat police in Surat city,and Nagpur police.
