A bus station is undergoing a major refurbishment to improve facilties. Work at the site off Bell Lane in Uckfield began on Monday and is not expected to finish until October. The project will see modern bus shelters installed with wireless charging points, enhanced real time information boards, improved street lighting, and a new cycle shelter.

Benches and planters will be put up and new bus stop roofs will be planted with drought-tolerant plants to help improve air quality by absorbing pollutants. The project is being organised by East Sussex County Council in partnership with Balfour Beatty Living Places, Wealden District Council and Uckfield Town Council.
It is being funded through development contributions and the East Sussex Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP). Councillor Claire Dowling, lead member for transport and environment, said: "Transforming the current bus station into a new mobility hub will improve connectivity between public transport services, making it easier for people to travel around the county and encouraging greater use of bus services." East Sussex County Council has confirmed the bus station will close for three weeks from next Monday, with temporary bus stops in place.
