A major UK city boasts an unexpected stunning beach – and it's perfect for summer. London is full of hustle and bustle including crowded shopping districts and restaurants with long queues, but while the big smoke might not be known for its natural beauty, it has some hidden gems. If you're ever in the capital and fancy a break, this beach on the Thames could be exactly what you're looking for.

TikToker @exploringlondon unveiled the "secluded" patch of sand with "London skyline views", accessible via a narrow alleyway and "old steps". The TikToker then revealed how to find this beautiful spot – it's tucked behind a pub, so unless you know where to look, you'd likely to stroll past without a second glance. First, head to The Prospect of Whitby pub in Wapping, believed to be London's oldest riverside pub dating back to 1520.

To the right, you'll spot Pelican Stairs, the narrow passageway which will take you to the beach. "At the end of it, you'll see this incredible view, and be amongst so much history", the voiceover added. From the beach, you can enjoy a lesser-known view of the capital, providing a peaceful escape from the business of the city.

It's the ideal spot for a summer picnic or a quiet read. However, there's one caveat. "Just be sure to visit at low tide, because when the water's high, this beach completely disappears," the video cautioned.

Originally named The Pelican, the pub also garnered the title of the Devil's Tavern due to the notorious meetups of smuggle.
