Home Alone turned the house that the movie was filmed at into an iconic landmark. But now we’re learning that Macaulay Culkin left another permanent mark on the property while filming. The 44-year-old actor was only a child when he starred in the 1990 classic, which was the first in a long-running franchise.
A new documentary called The House From...
offers some insight from the former owners of the home, which is located in Winnetka, Illinois – the Aberdshein family. In particular, we learned that Macaulay cut down a real tree in the backyard while getting ready for Christmas. Keep reading to find out more.
.. “My parents were watching the movie during the premiere and there’s a scene where Kevin [Macaulay's character] goes out into the backyard to cut himself a Christmas tree, so he cuts one in half,” Lauren Aberdshein recalled in a clip from the project, which was obtained by People .
“My parents are sitting there and thinking, ‘Wow, they did a really good job filming that scene. It looks very realistic.’ Well it wasn’t a fake tree.
” She continued, saying, “They got home and looked in the backyard and saw, ‘Oh, they cut our actual tree in half.’ So the tree you see in the movie that Kevin cuts down was our actual tree.” Home Alone fans will be able to learn even more about the movies when Macaulay embarks on a tour in a few weeks time.
