Last Saturday, single-day visitor arrivals and departures surged to over 717,000, marking the highest recorded traffic in the city’s history. According to the Public Security Police Force, nearly 54 percent of this flow, totaling exactly 717,197, was through the Border Gate checkpoint.

This unprecedented surge in visitor numbers signifies a robust recovery for Macau’s tourism sector. By Saturday, the total number of tourist arrivals for the year had surpassed the 20 million mark, achieving this milestone two months earlier than the previous year. This translates to a daily average of 93,000 visitors, a significant 36 percent increase year on year.

This recovery rate is nearly 83 percent of the levels seen in 2019, indicating that Macau is on a strong path to regaining its pre-pandemic tourism momentum. The Macao Government Tourism Office reported that July alone saw over 3 million traveler arrivals, with an impressive average hotel occupancy rate of over 90 percent.
