The formalization of this initiative was marked by the signing of a letter of intent (LoI) today, attended by key figures including Bavaria’s Minister of Science, Markus Blume, and Minister of Finance, Albert Füracker.

Additionally, the agreement was signed by TUM President Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann, Joerg Eberhart representing the Lufthansa Group, and Munich Airport CEO Jost Lammers.

Joerg Eberhart said: ‘In order to efficiently and sustainably shape the future of aviation as the Lufthansa Group, we want to create a unique platform for collaboration between Munich Airport and TUM with the support of the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts at the Munich location through the joint research institute.’ The upcoming TUM Convergence Center is set to foster a distinctive ecosystem where students, academic innovators, startup teams, industry collaborators, and community members can collaboratively pursue pioneering projects in a dynamic and inclusive setting. Research will focus on critical domains such as aviation, mobility, robotics, and security.
