Representative image LUCKNOW: A 17-year-old minor has been detained by Gomti Nagar police in connection with an incident on Monday where an unruly mob harassed a woman commuter by splashing rainwater on her and subsequently touching her when she fell off her bike in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar area. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Shashank Singh, the minor has been sent to a shelter home in Lucknow. Police claimed that he was the main youth involved in harassment.

This brings the total number of suspects arrested in the case to 23. Sixteen individuals were apprehended on Thursday, two more on August 2, and a minor was sent to a shelter home. Among those arrested on Saturday were Mohammed Daud (21) from Madeyganj, Ali Haider (19) from Thakurganj, and Mohammed Afsaan (32) from Aliganj.

The detained minor is 17 years old and has been placed in a shelter home. The incident occurred following heavy rainfall on Wednesday, which caused waterlogging near the underpass in the Gomti Nagar area, close to a luxury hotel. Several individuals, taking advantage of the situation, gathered at the waterlogged spot and began harassing commuters by splashing rainwater on them, including the woman whose ordeal was captured on video and went viral nationally.

The footage raised serious concerns about Lucknow’s social decorum and cultural standards. In response, the state government has ordered a probe and reassigned senior officers from the eastern zone, including the DCP, ADCP, AC.
