Friday, November 8, 2024 Luang Prabang, the picturesque city and capital of Laos ’ Luang Prabang province, has been honored with a 2024 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories award, recognizing its commitment to responsible tourism and preservation of its unique heritage. The award highlights Luang Prabang’s efforts to maintain its cultural authenticity while promoting sustainable tourism practices. Laos is one of 32 countries featured in this year’s prestigious Green Destinations Top 100 Stories list, revealed at an online event on October 15.
The official certificate presentation will take place in Chile from December 10-12. Dr. Soudaphone Khomthavong, Director of the Luang Prabang Provincial Information, Culture, and Tourism Department, emphasized that Luang Prabang is the first and only destination in Laos to receive this award.
This recognition was given under the theme “Preservation of architectural housing styles in a world heritage area,” a tribute to the city’s dedication to conserving its architectural heritage within the UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site. The Top 100 Destination Sustainability Stories award, granted by the globally recognized Green Destinations organization, acknowledges tourism destinations that excel in sustainable practices. Green Destinations, an authority in sustainable tourism certification, is endorsed by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, making this recognition a prestigious international achievement.
