WGNO-TV sports director Ed Daniels LSU coach Brian Kelly opened his post-practice media availability Saturday by offering condolences to the family of New Orleans sportscaster Ed Daniels, who died Friday. Daniels, 67, suffered a massive heart attack while covering the New Orleans Saints training camp in Irvine, California, and never regained consciousness. As the longtime sports director at WGNO-TV in New Orleans, Daniels covered the prep scene as well as the college and pros with equal enthusiasm and gusto in a career that spanned more than 41⁄2 decades.

"We lost a great one with Ed, lost his battle here the other day," Kelly said. "I think we all know him as a passionate sports broadcaster here in the state of Louisiana. "The work that he did was incredible — whether it was high school, college or the pros.

" Kelly said he last saw Daniels at Southeastern Conference media days in Dallas last month and Daniels was carrying his own camera. "Unlike some of you elitists in here, he was carrying his own camera," Kelly jokingly told reporters. "Actually, he was waiting for a couple of guys, but that's who he was.

"I only knew him for a couple of years, but for those that knew him longer, he certainly will be missed.".
