Monday, August 12, 2024 Los Angeles is intensifying its preparations for the 2028 Summer Olympics to boost tourism. The city prepares to host the world’s largest sport event for the third time in its history. With the handover from Paris during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Games, Mayor Karen Bass, alongside key representatives from the city, has begun outlining the extensive plans.

It will transform Los Angeles into the epicenter of global sports in 2028. A Legacy of Hosting the Olympics Los Angeles previously hosted the Olympic Games in 1932 and 1984 and the upcoming 2028 Olympics will cement its position as one of only three cities worldwide to have hosted the event three times. The 1932 Games, held during the Great Depression, saw the city as the sole bidder, yet it still produced memorable moments, including gold medals for American athlete Babe Didrikson Zaharias.

The 1984 Olympics, on the other hand, were a financial and cultural success, remembered for iconic performances by Carl Lewis and Mary Lou Retton and a remarkable opening ceremony that featured a jetpack descent into the Memorial Coliseum. Now, as the city prepares for its Olympic trilogy, the focus is on building a modern, youthful, and optimistic Games that will resonate with both Southern California and the world. Janet Evans, a four-time Olympic gold medalist and Chief Athlete Officer for the LA28 Organizing Committee, emphasized the city’s commitment to delivering a Games that reflect the region’.
