London City Airport (LCY) has announced its intent to enable even larger narrowbodies to land at the central London airport, namely the Airbus A320neo , which has to be approved by the local regulator. New flight procedure On January 27, the airport announced that it had submitted an application to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to enable the Airbus A320neo to land at the airport, which is located at the heart of London’s financial district. If approved by the CAA , the airport would be allowed to introduce cleaner, quieter aircraft as part of its growth plans.
The approval of the application would also enable the airport to reach its 9 million passenger goal by 2031 without increasing the number of flight movements, the airport said. “It would open up a range of possible new routes for passengers while incentivizing airlines to modernize their fleet from older to newer generation aircraft such as the Airbus A320neo, which are more fuel efficient, more environmentally friendly and quieter.” The airport detailed that the application would introduce a new approach, Required Navigation Performance Authorization Required (RNP AR), altering the approach angle for the specific aircraft at each end of its single runway.
“The current approach angle limits the type of aircraft that use the airport and requires those that can be certified for a steep approach.” Currently, the largest aircraft that are permitted to operate from/to the airport are the Airbus A318, A220-100,.
