Pune: Residents of Lohegaon and Dhanori on Tuesday held an agitation at PMC ’s main office in Shivajinagar to draw the administration’s attention to poor civic amenities and lack of infrastructure in their areas. The residents submitted a list of demands, including poor road connectivity, non-development of DP roads, inadequate water supply, lack of doctors and staffers at PMC-run hospitals, and lack of teachers at civic schools. The residents said that they wanted permanent solutions for these demands and dedicated funds for development of the area.
Sunil Khandve, a leader and agitator, said that Lohegaon and Dhanori became a part of PMC three years ago, but the overall development has been very slow. The population has gone up many folds. PMC needs to spend more funds on newly merged areas as these pockets lack basic amenities.
“Lack of proper road infrastructure has been a major challenge. Many arterial roads and bylanes are not wide enough to accommodate bigger vehicles. Schoolchildren face a lot of problems while going and returning from school because of lack of traffic plans.
Existing roads are facing the problem of illegal parking and encroachment by vendors as there is no proper monitoring by the civic administration,” Khandve said. Vijay Sathe, another resident, said that water supply has improved in some parts after the PMC introduced the Bhama Askhed scheme, but many areas are still facing water scarcity.
