Liverpool have been given a big injury boost after Alexis Mac Allister returned to training for Argentina after picking up a problem during the country's 3-0 win over Chile. The midfielder started for the 2022 World Cup winners alongside Rodrigo de Paul and Enzo Fernandez and scored the opening goal of the game but was subbed off for Paulo Dybala with around ten minutes to go after suffering from "discomfort". The Reds were given a scare by the news , with Mac Allister key to giving Arne Slot 's Liverpool a perfect start to the new season - but Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni has eased their fears after confirming the 25-year-old has recovered and is available for their next game against Colombia on Tuesday.

"The team is fine, recovering from the game the other day, with some typical ailments," he told the press. "Nico (Gonzalez) trained separately and Alexis (Mac Allister) with the rest of the group. We will see how they have evolved over the last two days to decide how we are going to play.

" Liverpool's next game is a home clash against Nottingham Forest on September 14 and there had been concerns that Mac Allister would be racing to get fit for that game, but the player appears to have come through the Chile game relatively unscathed. The former Brighton star could pick up his 33rd cap in their World Cup qualifier against Colombia as he continues to go from strength to strength with his country. Mac Allister netted the first goal of the game as he finished off a superb team .
