Monday, September 9, 2024 Lisbon has been crowned Europe’s Best MICE Destination for 2024 at the prestigious 5th World MICE Awards, held today in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This marks Lisbon’s second consecutive win, triumphing over notable cities such as Athens, Berlin, Istanbul, London, Madrid, Milan, Paris, and Vienna. The MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector plays a crucial role in boosting Lisbon’s tourism revenue and driving its development.
The city’s prime location, cutting-edge infrastructure, easy accessibility, and rich cultural scene have cemented its position as a top European hub for event planning. According to Paula Oliveira, Executive Director of the Lisbon Tourism Association, “This award acknowledges the collective effort in establishing Lisbon as a leading destination worldwide. It significantly impacts revenue generation, job creation, and the preservation of our heritage.
” In 2023, Lisbon hosted 151 events that earned it a place in the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) rankings. From 2019 to 2022, the city ranked second in both European and global standings. Although in 2023, Lisbon narrowly missed the global runner-up spot by one event (with Singapore taking 2nd place), it remains the 2nd most event-rich city in Europe, following Paris.
