ALLEN PARK -- Graham Glasgow returned to Detroit to play guard. He found himself splitting his time at center during his first summer back in town, and wasn’t a huge fan of bouncing between multiple positions. “I’ve played a lot of games, unfortunately, at a lot of positions,” Glasgow quipped this week.
“They don’t like me getting comfortable.” But that versatility is part of what makes Glasgow such a good fit up front, and why the Lions ultimately paid $20 million to bring him back in free agency this past offseason. Now heading into Week 4, that investment figures to pay huge dividends.
With star center Frank Ragnow (pectoral) unavailable to play against Seattle on Monday Night Football, Glasgow is expected to slide over to center, a position at which he’s already played 2,002 snaps for this team. That’s an excellent insurance option for Ragnow, one of the top centers in the league. “Yeah, he’s the Swiss army knife,” quarterback Jared Goff said.
“He can kind of do it all. He’s played right guard, he’s played left guard this year, and now he’s playing center and it’s a luxury for us to have him, for sure.” A former walk-on at Michigan, Glasgow went on to become a third-round pick of the Lions in 2016.
He started across the interior during a four-year stint with the team, before settling in as one of the better right guards in the league. But the Quinntricia regime didn’t believe in paying guards, and platooned Glasgow in a weird guard ro.
