The Lincoln Southwest softball team started the A-2 district tournament in style with situational skills and significant playing time. The No. 2 Silver Hawks (33-3) posted a 16-0 victory over Lincoln High on Wednesday at Doris Bair Complex behind a five-run, two-out rally in the first inning and then added 11 runs in the second inning.

“It was kind of good just because you could tell we were pressing a little bit,” Lincoln Southwest head coach Mitch Ohnoutka said of the Silver Hawks first-inning rally. “The girls were swinging a little early and once we adjusted things went our way.” The Silver Hawks used 16 different players against the Links, but it was not just mop-up duty.

Taylor Siefken tripled and Angelina Tankersley doubled coming off the Hawks' bench while Brooklyn Bruggeman added an inning of relief in the circle. People are also reading..

. “It's very important — this is districts,” Ohnoutka said. “Some of these kids have worked hard all year, and they deserved a chance to play today in a district game.

The games are going to get tougher as we proceed. I was really hoping we were able to do that today, and it was great to see everybody. And they all performed — that's the best part of the team this year.

We all perform.” Emma Dostal led the Silver Hawks with four RBIs on a double and home run, while Hadley Madson added a blast that helped kickstart Southwest's second. But the big picture still remains for the Silver Hawks — the state tournament.
