Lily Allen ’s reaction to England losing to Spain in the Euro 2024 final has left people scratching their heads. On Sunday night (July 14), Gareth Southgate ’s squad were defeated 2-1 as the nail-biting final took place at Olympiastadion in Berlin. As to be expected, an outpouring of emotion followed, with celebs such as Olly Murs crying in the stands , while Jeremy Clarkson went to the extreme lengths of immediately throwing his England bunting in the bin.

Lily, however, had a more unusual – somewhat controversial – response. Taking to X, the Smile hitmaker, 37, shared an AI-generated image of a group of middle-aged, bald men sitting in the rain, crying, wearing Union Jack underpants. They had Union Jack flags wrapped around them and pints of beer in their hands, while a sea of Union Jack umbrellas could be seen in the background.

Lily shared the image with her 4.9million followers and less than 24 hours after the match, it had already been viewed eight million times. The LDN singer’s tweet has rubbed many people up the wrong way, though, as they’ve accused her of being ‘anti-working class’ and ‘detesting’ her own country.

Several fans were also perplexed at the flag choice, given that it was a United Kingdom flag, not an English one.
