Sodiq Ojuroungbe Medical practitioners have urged the Federal Government to licence more health insurance providers, emphasising the need for broader access to healthcare coverage for Nigerians. The physicians noted that expanding the number of licenced health insurance companies would enhance competition and drive down premiums, making health insurance more affordable for a larger portion of the population. Speaking exclusively with PUNCH Healthwise shortly after the launch of a state-of-the-art clinic in Banana Island, the medical experts advocated for a more inclusive and accessible healthcare system, stressing that insurance is key to ensuring Nigerians can receive timely and adequate medical care without financial strain.

The new clinic is an extension of Evercare Hospital Lekki, established in partnership with Medical & Dental Consultant Services. The physicians, who spoke in separate interviews with our correspondent, stressed that health insurance provides a safety net for individuals and families, allowing them to access medical services without paying out of pocket. They noted that the government has a critical role in promoting health insurance in Nigeria by licensing more health management organisations and increasing awareness about the importance of health insurance.

The Medical Director of MDCS, Dr. Dara Odubogun emphasised the need for a more robust health insurance system in tackling the various challenges affecting accessing quality healthcare in the country.
