Ex-One Direction Singer Liam Payne’s funeral is set to take place in a large cathedral ‘close to his heart’ according to a friend of the star. The 31-year-old passed away on October 16, 2024 , after suffering a fall from the third floor of a hotel he was staying in in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is understood that Payne’s funeral will be a ‘lavish service of remembrance’ following his tragic death in recent weeks.
Speaking to MailOnline, a close friend of the father-of-one said: ‘Liam will have a very big send-off, quite probably at a large cathedral somewhere close to his heart.’ Adding that Liam was ‘loved by so many people’, the source said that there would be enormous demand so the event could potentially be a ‘huge affair’. ‘The details are still under wraps until they are definitively signed off but should be announced very soon,’ they continued.
Liam was staying in the Casa Sur Hotel at the time of his death, understood to be holidaying in the area while in town for ex-bandmate Niall Horan’s tour , where he saw him perform live. During his stay at the luxury hotel, the ‘ Strip That Down ‘ singer met with numerous fans, revealing to one of them that he loved Buenos Aires and wanted to eventually buy a house there. It is understood that the star’s first song following his tragic passing was set to be released in the days following his death but was met with backlash from fans for being so soon after the heartbreaking accident.
