He originally auditioned in 2008 when he was 14 but did not make it through. When he auditioned again, he was put in a group with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan , and Zayn Malik to make up what would become One Direction. The group went on to get third place on the show but continued making music afterward, becoming a worldwide success.
Liam himself is credited with writing many of One Direction’s songs. After the band decided to go on an indefinite hiatus in 2015, Liam pursued a solo career, working with artists such as Rita Ora, Zedd, Quavo , and more. Unfortunately, Liam’s life was cut short when he tragically died in October 2024.
