Dear Editor, Re: " Happy Monday, Richmond: Photos of the week " I look forward to seeing “Happy Monday, Richmond: Photos of the Week” in the Richmond News . This week, Johnny Choi's stunning photo, Sunset in Steveston's London Landing, brought back fond childhood memories of the incredible sunset and sunrise colours brought on by smokey skies. Fond because massive fires were a rarity in those days.

Now the beauty is tinged with grief. I had the good fortune to visit Jasper this spring. I snapped photos of St.

Mary and St. George historical church, sipped coffee at the Wicked Cup cafe, and stayed at Mt. Robson Inn, all of which were burned to the ground this summer.

My friend's son, like many others in Jasper, lost his family home. Unfortunately, this is becoming a familiar story for far too many, and climate science warns us that without action things will only get worse. Each year we read about breaking heat records, atmospheric rivers, sea level rise and other disasters.

Climate science is clear that global temperature rise is at the least exacerbating the problems and in some cases causing them. Yet how do we together find the will to move away from the fossil fuels causing global temperature rise? It seems like our will as a community, be it municipal or national, is both our greatest barrier and our greatest hope. Let's not wait too long to empower it.
