com Lawrence Loh, music director of The Syracuse Orchestra, was two years into pre-med studies at the University of Rochester when he took some electives in music “just for fun.” Loh, the middle of three children of a physician and a music teacher, grew up surrounded by music and played the piano and clarinet through high school in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. But he had not considered making it a career until college, after becoming absorbed in the study of music beyond performing it.
