THE FAMILY of the late Armagh GAA player Caolan Finnegan have shared their one wish for his funeral as the details are announced. The 20-year-old was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer in August 2023 and passed away on Friday. A post on the Care for Caolan Facebook page informed followers of his sad passing.
It read: “It is with deep sadness and regret that we inform you of the untimely passing of our dear Caolan ‘Stringer’. "May his beautiful and gentle soul Rest in Peace. Heaven will look after him now.
” Caolan will be missed by his parents Liam and Janette, as well as siblings Stephen, Ronan, Patsy and Liam Og. He also leaves behind his girlfriend Emily, sisters in-law Elaine and Hannah and nieces and nephews Ayla, Fiadh and Shea. The details of Caolan's funeral have been shared amid tributes following his tragic passing.
The GAA star's removal is open to visitors at his home until 9pm on Sunday night, with the house strictly private from then. The funeral is set to take place on Monday, August 26, leaving his home at 10.15am to St Patrick's Church, Crossmaglen (via the Rangers Field) arriving for Requiem Mass at 11am.
He will then be buried after at the adjoining cemetery. Caolan's family have shared the one wish they ask all funeral and wake-goers to do if attending. The family are urging the public and other loved ones to wear their club, county or college colours - rather than the traditional all black.
