Thursday, August 22, 2024 LATAM Airlines Group has made a groundbreaking move in the aviation industry by becoming the first airline group in Latin America to integrate virtual reality (VR) into the training of its cabin crew. This innovative approach is set to redefine the standards of aviation education, offering a more efficient, cost-effective, and immersive training experience for cabin crew members. The adoption of this technology not only accelerates the training process but also allows multiple crew members to be trained simultaneously, eliminating the need for grounded aircraft, thus significantly reducing costs in the long run.

The development of this pioneering project began over a year ago, with LATAM Airlines collaborating closely with the Japanese technology firm NTT Data. The goal was to create a VR system that faithfully replicates the conditions and environment of real aircraft cabins. Over the course of nearly five months, the two companies worked together to ensure that every detail—from procedures to visual elements—matched the actual conditions found on LATAM’s aircraft.

The result is a sophisticated training tool that provides an unparalleled level of realism, allowing crew members to practice and perfect their skills in a virtual environment that mirrors real-life scenarios. The introduction of virtual reality into LATAM’s training regimen marks a significant improvement in the efficiency of the training process. According to Ignacio Echeverrí.
