Sodiq Ojuroungbe To protect consumer rights, the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency has announced the recovery of over N330 million from various service providers, including hospitals for rendering poor services to the residents. In an exclusive interview with PUNCH Healthwise, the General Manager of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo revealed that since the agency’s inception, it has received a total of 9,563 complaints, out of which 9,128 were successfully resolved through mediation and legal channels. Giving the breakdown of the over 330 million recovered from various industries, Solebo, explained that the agency recovered a substantial sum of N5.

5 million from hospitals that provided substandard care to patients. He stated that this recovery was achieved on behalf of patients who were dissatisfied with the services they received, stressing that LASCOPA was committed to ensuring that healthcare providers adhere to promised standards and deliver value to their patients. According to the LASCOPA GM, the agency received numerous complaints from patients who were not satisfied with the services they received from hospitals.

Some of the complaints included poor treatment, expired products, and failure to provide standard services.
