Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will write to the district collector’s office to act against large-scale tree felling reports on gairan land – reserved for cattle grazing – in Moshi. The PCMC chief Shekhar Singh told TOI that the revenue department owns the land. “I am exploring legal opinions on whether PCMC can intervene in the issue as the municipal commissioner is also a chief of tree authority for the city,” he said.

“Meanwhile, I am writing to the district collector office to initiate action. We are also trying to take some steps from our end under the Tree Act,” Singh said. Environment activist Prashant Raul earlier this month had highlighted the matter to the municipal corporation.

Deputy municipal commissioner Ravikiran Ghodke, the head of the PCMC’s garden department, told TOI, “It is not just a matter of tree cutting, but the trees were cut for mining as per our reports. Our team of officials have conducted panchanama on the land. We will share details with the district collector office.

” A senior official from the tehsildar office of Pimpri Chinchwad said, “Our officials have visited this site after complaints and they did not find any activity related to mining or illegal construction.” We also published the following articles recently PCMC chief visits Punawale underpass to ease congestion Pimpri Chinchwad municipal commissioner Shekhar Singh and traffic police officers conducted an inspection at the Punawale underpass on.
