Hannah Johnson In a move to promote environmental sustainability, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency and the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency have launched a joint media campaign to ban open defecation along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway. The state Commissioner, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement on X.com on Wednesday.

According to Wahab the campaign, led by the General Manager of LASEPA, Babatunde Ajayi and the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Environmental Protection Matter, Oluwadare Kehinde, aims to prevent the spread of cholera and other communicable diseases, while restoring the aesthetic appeal of the vital corridor. The initiative targets the median from OPIC Plaza to Otedola Bridge, with plans to involve relevant stakeholders in monitoring the area for violations. The statement said, “The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (#LasepaOfficial ) and the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) have launched a joint media campaign to ban open defecation along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, particularly targeting the median from OPIC Plaza to Otedola Bridge.

“This initiative aims to enhance public health and environmental sustainability by preventing the spread of cholera and other communicable diseases while restoring the aesthetic appeal of this vital corridor, known as a gateway to Lagos—often referred to as the nation’s Centre of Excellence and Africa�.
