Landlords have increasingly been turning second homes into holiday lets in recent years (Image: Getty) The Labour Government has to give more powers to councils to license and limit holiday lets to stop people being forced to move away from the areas they grew up in. Renters and homeowners across the UK have lamented the uncontrolled spread of holiday homes because of the impact the move has had on local communities – including causing prices to spike and forcing locals to move out. The former Government unveiled plans in February to clamp down on the crisis and proposed two possible changes, including the creation of a national register to allow councils to monitor the use of holiday lets and the impact on the community.

Keir Starmer is now being urged to pick up the baton and ensure loopholes are shut down to stop landlords wanting to turn their second homes into holiday rentals causing further chaos. function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.
