In a major casting announcement for the DC Universe , Emmy Award-winning actor Kyle Chandler has been confirmed to star as Hal Jordan in the upcoming HBO series ' Lanterns ', based on the Green Lantern comics. Chandler will take on the to take on of the superhero, previously played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 film. Joining Chandler is Aaron Pierre , who has been cast as co-lead John Stewart, another Green Lantern.

Pierre, known for his roles in 'Rebel Ridge', was chosen after an extensive casting search, emerging as a standout. The 'Lanterns' series will follow the two intergalactic heroes as they team up to investigate a dark, Earth-based mystery, centred around a murder in the American heartland. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn took to Instagram to personally welcome Chandler to the DC Universe, writing, "Welcome to the DCU, Kyle Chandler! Now our Hal Jordan in #Lanterns.

" The series will feature an eight-episode run and is set to be helmed by Ozark's Chris Mundy , who will serve as showrunner. Damon Lindelof, best known for 'Watchmen', and acclaimed comic book writer Tom King are attached as co-writers and executive producers. James Hawes, who will direct the first two episodes, also joins the project as an executive producer.

Announced back in 2019, the Green Lantern series was originally said to "span several decades and focus on the origin stories". The release date for 'Lanterns' has not been announced yet, but it is part of the new DC Universe slate. James Gunn Pokes Fu.
