“Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter has abruptly parted ways with Netflix over his western series “The Abandons” currently in its final weeks of production. Gillian Anderson, Lena Headey, Nick Robinson, Lucas Till, Ryan Hurst, Lamar Johnson, Michiel Huisman, Aisling Franciosi and Patton Oswalt are among the cast of the period drama set in the Oregon Territory in the 1850s. It follows a group of outlier families who come together to fight a corrupt, wealthy power that wants to force them off their land.

The project has several weeks of production on its season remaining and will continue filming the rest of its run in Calgary. Sutter created the show and was serving as showrunner, but has now left the series over creative differences with the streamer according to . Sutter was infamously fired from FX’s “Mayans MC” several years ago over his on-set behavior with Sutter labelling himself an ‘abrasive d—‘ in a public letter.

The trade indicates Sutter’s departure came after Netflix saw rough cuts of the show’s first episodes. The premiere came in at nearly feature-film length, and was eventually split into two episodes which necessitated additional scenes. Executive producer and director Otto Bathurst and co-executive producer Rob Askins will oversee the remainder of the shoot.
